Pest Control: Indoor Prevention

Letitia Smith

Bugs and vermin are some of the most unwanted creatures around. Indoor pest prevention is the way to handle those unwanted critters, both before and after, they begin to present themselves into your home life.

These are a few ways to ensure that you have minimal to zero issues with these types of problems. Although some people might think of this stuff as common sense material, you would be surprised at the number of individuals that have no clue as to how to avoid pest problems within their homes.

Remove Standing Water

Every living creature requires water for their survival and that includes these pesky pests that we're talking about. In order to minimise their sources be sure to clean up all unnecessary standing water that has accumulated throughout the home. You will also want to fix all plumbing issues as well as any water damaged material. Some inspectors even suggest that you refrain from leaving water under the trays of common houseplants.

Package food properly

It seems as though pests and vermin are quick to move into areas in which they will also have a source of nourishment. Food, even in minute amounts, is quick to coral all of the unwanted pests over to your home. It is imperative that you maintain a proper storage method for your food items that will prevent access. Keep all items in a sealed container and avoid leaving your dog/cat food outside past their feeding times. Also be sure to keep a tight lid on your indoor wastebaskets, taking care to place the garbage in an outdoor bin on a frequent basis.

General Upkeep

Cleanliness is next to godliness as they say, and it is also conducive to a pest-free environment. Pests like to be in cosy and hidden environments that can keep them unseen while you are up and walking around.

In order to minimise their comfort levels and drive them out of your home, block off all visible hiding places. These can include cracks in the flooring, window seals, the dark areas behind the refrigerator and stove, and even the pile of clothes in your son's bathroom. In the winter time, when pests are more likely to retreat to your home, place a tight weather stripping around all of your doors and windows to close up their ways in.
