Why Call for Professional Pest Control for Your Home?

Letitia Smith

No one likes to think of having pests in their home; bugs and rodents can be frightening and downright disgusting, and you may find their droppings anywhere in the house. While typically the occasional cockroach or mouse may not be an issue, it's good to think about calling a professional if you know you have a persistent problem with any type of pest control issue, for your own protection and the protection of your home. Note a few reasons for this below.

1. Your health can be at risk

While you may know that pests and rodents are dangerous to your health, you may not understand all the risks. Rodents can burrow into asbestos and fiberglass insulation in the home and cause fibers to become airborne, and breathing in these fibers can be very damaging to your lungs. Humans can also get hantavirus from rodents, and this disease can cause respiratory illnesses and even death. Droppings from roaches can cause allergic reactions and asthma attacks even if you don't come into contact with those droppings, and they may also cause long-term damage to healthy lungs.

Risking your health is also why you don't want to try to tackle this problem on your own. You might use harsh products to spray for bugs, and while these might kill the bugs you see, they won't typically do anything about bugs and pests behind your walls. In the meantime, you're repeatedly breathing in the chemicals used in bug sprays. A professional exterminator will be able to use effective products that address the problem immediately and that will be gentler and safer for residents.

2. Your home could be at risk

Ignoring a pest control problem in your home could mean putting your home itself at risk. Rodents can chew through electrical wiring and drywall and cause damage, and of course termites can eat through any wood or paper, causing damage even to the home's frame itself. In turn, you may wind up with expensive repair bills when it's time to change the electrical wire damaged by rodents or make repairs to studs and other wood building materials.

Note that a professional exterminator can examine your home not just for a pest infestation but to see if there has already been damage done to the home because of these pests. You can then make repairs as needed, replacing wires or wood materials that have suffered damage.
